Intensive Topics

Few skills are so vital in nonprofit life as grant writing.

What does it take to move an idea into action? To write a plan so effective a funder is willing to support it? For many nonprofit organizations, the answers to these questions are the keys to successful fundraising.

In this intensive, we discuss the methods used to conduct a needs assessment to define a set of community needs accurately. Using data collected regarding college access programs, we generate potential solutions to a set of community problems, generate the results we hope to achieve, and create an action plan to achieve those results. We review the steps in preparing a sound budget and practice research techniques that will enable us to identify appropriate funders for our work.

Facilitators

Past facilitators for this intensive intensive include:

  • Margie DuBrow, Ph.D., Creative Management Strategies, Inc.

Questions

Contact Katie Turek at kturek@brynmawr.edu

Are you interested in:

  • working in or potentially starting your entrepreneurial ventures?
  • joining an entrepreneurial start-up?
  • taking on a strategic or innovation role in a corporation?
  • joining a venture capital fund?

If you answered yes to these questions, consider joining us for the upcoming Entrepreneurship Intensive. This new intensive combines entrepreneurship's technocratic and practical skills with the leadership, interpersonal, and negotiation skills it takes to lead successfully over time.

In this intensive, you will be exposed to various formats—lectures with short assigned readings, case studies, and action/experiential learning. By combining these formats, you will be supported to conceptualize critical lessons as well as apply them to a proprietary framework where you will develop and learn to test your ideas.

Key concepts and lessons will include industry analysis, competitive analysis, customer research, discovery-driven planning, and revenue model, including developing the business's economic model, strategy, pricing analysis, and term sheets and valuations. You will be exposed to key concepts in each area, and you will have the opportunity to apply them.

Learn how your liberal arts education—the ability to read and synthesize data across various fields—is the first and most important aspect of working in or developing an entrepreneurial venture. This intensive builds on those core skills and creates an avenue for their confident application.
