Award-winning physics graduate program and physics ph.d. program.

A.B./M.A. Program

Students with a physics major GPA of 3.60 or above are encouraged to explore the combined A.B./M.A. program in physics, which provides the opportunity to work towards their bachelor’s and master’s degrees concurrently in four to five years. Students normally apply to this program during their sophomore or junior year. Students are allowed to count up to two courses toward both degrees. The key to completing the A.B./M.A. degree, including an M.A. thesis, is to develop a feasible curricular workplan and start supervised research as early as possible.

For more information on the application and requirements for the A.B./M.A. program, please visit the A.B./M.A. program website of the Â鶹AV School of Arts and Sciences

To get started:

Each tenured and tenure-track faculty member also runs a robust and engaging research program. The research areas include atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics and nanomaterials, plasma physics, biophysics, and string theory.

Students can participate in supervised research by

  • taking Phys 403 Supervised Research with physics faculty or volunteer in a research group directed by physics faculty during the semesters and
  • conduct 10-week supervised research with physics faculty supported by the Summer Science Research program or other departmental or faculty grants.
