Alums in Data Science

  • Tuesday, April 6th, 2021 at 7 PM
  • Please for this event.

The recently released documentary about bias in Artificial Intelligence, is available to the BMC community to stream through April  7th.  ’s “Coded Bias” effectively brings to light a modern civil rights issue that can be proven with data—the bias within facial recognition programs, particularly against those who are not like the white men who originally formed such technology.

We are also hosting a Teach-In/discussion of CODED BIAS and related issues Wednesday, April 7th at 4 PM. Facilitated by Isaac Sandberg (math), Sorelle Friedler (CS at Haverford), Deepak Kumar (CS), Marc Schulz (Data Science). These events are Co-sponsored by the Data Science, Psychology, Math, CS departments and President’s Office at Bryn Mawr and CS at Haverford.

  • Friday, April 9, 2021 from 12-1pm 9 (EST).

Inaugural Data Science Data Hangout (DSDH)

  • Tuesday, April 13th at 4 PM.
The inaugural DSDH will focus on student experience during the COVID pandemic and include presentations from a recent alum, Kate Petrova ’20 (on social connection and emotions during the pandemic) and the College Archivist, Allison Mills, who will talk about the College’s effort to document the campus experience of COVID-19. This will be a great opportunity for students, staff and faculty interested in Data Science to hang out together and talk about some interesting projects.
