The more than 300 undergraduate members of the Class of 2019 and the graduating members of Bryn Mawr’s Â鶹AV School of Arts and Sciences and Â鶹AV School of Social Work and Social Research will receive their degrees at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. Convocation is scheduled for Friday, May 17.

Globe-trotting grads:
Ellen Jin, who majored in Philosophy and minored in Political Science will pursue a master’s in law at Oxford University. Christina Butcher, a Spanish major and Chinese minor from Stamford, Vermont, will travel to Beijing, China, to work for Elite Scholars of China as an Educational Consultant. Samantha Parrish of Denton, Texas, who majored in English and minored in Russian will continue studying Russian in Vladimir, Russia through American Councils for International Education. Also bound for Russia is Katya Olson Shipyatsky, of Denver, Colo., an independent major in Philosophy, Politics, Economics who will be doing a Fulbright English Teaching Fellowship. Mehendi Siraj of Singapore, who double majored in Mathematics and Economics (at Haverford) will be joining the Global Banking and Markets division at The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) in Hong Kong. Haley Varnum will travel to the University of Potsdam in Germany to research molecular enzymology as a Fulbright Fellow. Angela Zhang of San Diego, Calif, who majored in Chemistry and minored in Eduction, will be traveling to Taitung, Taiwan for as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant. Russian major Sydney Millar of Dumfries, Va., earned a Boren Scholarship and will be going to Almaty, Kazakhstan as part of the Russian Overseas Flagship Program. Radhika Singh of Mumbai, India, who majored in Psychology and dobule minored in Health Studies and Neuroscience, will travel to New Delhi to be a psychology intern at Fortis Healthcare. Colleen Williamson of Leo-Cedarville, Indiana, who majored in History and minored in Middle Eastern Studies, is moving to Cairo, Egypt, for the next year as an American University at Cairo Presidential Fellow in the Rare Books and Special Collections Library. Delia Landers of Hatboro, Pa., who majored in Political Science and Fine Arts, will be pursing a master's in Political Theory at the University of Toronto.
Westward Bound:
Philosophy and Comparative Literature double major Xiaolu (Charlotte) Xu of Shanghai, China, will earn a master's in Translation and Interpretation at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey in Calif. History of Art Major Jialu Guo, of China is going to start a graduate program in the Humanities Division at University of Chicago. Mathematics major Namrata Basu of Mumbai, India will be pursuing a Specialized Masters in Finance at Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University. Katie Billings of Silver Spring, Md., who majored in Geology and minored in Astronomy (at Haverford College) and History, will be a seasonal interpretive Park Ranger at Mount Rainier National Park in Washington. Chemistry major Ashley Ossimetha of Houston, Texas, will return home to work at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Mary-Elizabeth Cooper of Atlanta, Ga., who majored in Economics and minored in Psychology and English, will be working at Vanguard in Charlotte, N.C., as a Client Relationship Associate.
New Englanders:
Philosophy Major Julia Greig of Wayne, Pa., will be attending Brandeis University where she'll be working toward a master’s degree in classical studies and philosophy. Lauren Phillips of Zionsville, Ind., who majored in Anthropology and minored in Museum Studies, will be attending Brown University as part of their Ph.D. Anthropology program. She'll be joined at Brown by Political Science major Precious Robinson of Houston, Texas, who will be an American Political Science Association Minority Fellow and studying to get her Ph.D. in political science. Tara Holman of Falls Church, Va., who majored in English and minored in International Studies, will pursue a Ph.D. in English at Brown.

Music and Anthropology Major Alice Berry of Tucson, Ariz., will be staying in Philadelphia and working in Bryn Mawr Special Collections this summer. Sociology major Amanda Santiago of Newark, N.J., will getting a master's degree in Social Work at Delaware State University. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major Zauraiz Syeda of Croydon, Pa., will be an Ophthalmic Scribe at Scheie Eye Institute. Sierra Norman of Albion, Idaho, majored in Psychology and minored in Biology and Child & Family Studies and will be enrolled in the Health Science Intensive Program at Johns Hopkins University. Elizabeth Hilton of South Orange, N.J., who majored in Psychology and minored in Education and Child and Family Studies, will be doing a teacher residency program with the School District of Philadelphia and earning a master's degree at the University of Pennsylvania's Â鶹AV School of Education. Grace Newman-Lapinski of Pittsford, N.Y., majored in Growth and Strucutre of Cities and minored in Visual Studies (at Haverford) and will be pursuing a Master's of Science in Design Research at Drexel University. Biology and History major Lillian Oyen-Ustad of Rhinebeck, N.Y. will attend NYS University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine for a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. Ruoli Yang of Beijing, China, who majored in Growth and Structure of Cities and minored in History of Art will be pursuing a Master's of City and Regional Planning degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Anisha Thornabar of Houston, Texas, who majored in Sociology and minored in Child and Family Studies, will complete her final year of the five-year A.B./M.S.S. combined degree program to earn a master's degree (M.S.S.) from the Â鶹AV School of Social Work and Social Research. Joy Rukanzakanza of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, who majored in International Studies and minored in Africana Studies, will be returning to BlackRock Inc. in New York, where she interned as a technology analyst in the Aladdin Client Services division last summer. Melanie Giselle EsquilÃn of Mineola, N.Y., who majored in Spanish and minored in Latin American, Iberian, Latino Studies, will be pursuing a master's degree at the Columbia School of Social Work. Physics major Sophia Kim will be finishing a master's degree through the 4+1 Engineering Program at The University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Electrical Engineering. Kat Phifer, of Willoughby, Ohio, who majored in Mathematics and minored in Theater, will be doing a year-long apprenticeship with Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major Danielle Xie of San Diego, Calif., will be working in HIV research at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Bethesda, MD. Kellie Dinh of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., who majored in Computer Science and minored in Growth and Structure of Cities, will be interning at Vietcetera in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, before joining the news-discovery startup Dataminr in New York City in the fall as a software engineer. Ayesha Islam of Queens, N.Y., who majored in Political Science with a concentration in Middle Eastern Studies, selected for the New York City Urban Fellows Program and will be working at a New York City government agency on urban public policy issues. Makenna Lenover of Allentown, Pa., who majored in Anthropology and minored in Biology will be attending Pennsylvania State University to earn a Ph.D. in Anthropology. Kaiying Wang, of Guangzhou, China, who majored in Economics and History of Art will be pursuing her J.D. degree at University of Pennsylvania Law School. Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology major Ana Alvarez of Puerto Rico, will be pursuing a Ph.D. in Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University.
