A new physics lab has been dedicated to Alfonso Albano, Marion C. Reilly Professor Emeritus of Physics. The dedication honors Professor Albano for 35 years of service to the Â鶹AV community. Professor Albano began teaching physics at the college in 1970 and has published a wide range of scholarship on nonlinear dynamics, as well as the long-time discipline standard textbook Physics: Principles and Applications. In 2005 he was awarded the Mary Patterson McPherson Award for Excellence.

A reception was held on October 27 to formally honor Professor Albano at the new Albano lab, which is located in Room 156 of the newly renovated Park Science Building. The event featured distinguished alumnae and former students of Professor Albano. Chair of the Physics Department Michael Noel delivered a heartwarming welcoming address before former students gathered for remarks reflecting upon Professor Albano’s distinguished career. This included former executive director of the Five College Consortium and former Bryn Mawr professor Neal Abraham (Ph.D. ’77), Bryn Mawr trustee Patricia Mooney (M.A. '69, Ph.D. ’72), current Maret School instructor Mita Gupta Forsyth (’78), and Naomi Halas (M.A. '84, Ph.D. '87), Rice University’s Stanley C. Moore professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Many other distinguished alumnae were also in attendance. The lab was officially dedicated by Chemistry Professor Sharon Burgmayer, Dean of the Â鶹AV School of Arts and Sciences.
