Every summer, staff gather for a picnic to celebrate the end of the academic year and to honor the achievements of their colleagues. Service awards were given out to recognize individuals who have five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 40 years of employment with the College, and the staff McPherson Award recipients were announced. McPherson winners are recognized for excellence and service to the community, either within or beyond the boundaries of this institution.
This year's McPherson Award recipients with excerpts from their nominations:
Hamilton Fortune, Transportation Department Driver
"Hamilton’s willingness to help others and his meticulous attention to detail is clad in unbridled humility. Hamilton over-delivers on his commitments. Hamilton’s word is his bond and it would be quite difficult to find a person of higher integrity.
"This winter during a midday snowstorm, Hamilton kept the Bi-Co buses and Tri-Co vans running as long as possible but only up to the point that it was safe for students and drivers. He was a reliable source of information and provided solid judgment and reassurance to those of us in the office. He also ensured that transportation services resumed in a timely fashion, which minimized the disruption to students’ schedules. Hamilton’s wealth of experience and calm and dependable approach to his job make him a true asset to the whole community.
"Hamilton’s contribution to the Transportation Department is invaluable. He is loved and respected by students, faculty and co-workers. I have received several emails from members of the Tri-college community thanking us for his friendly and professional service."
Gary Stroman, Postal Driver
"As driver for the mailroom, Gary has provided exceptional service to the College for some time. His consistent excellence and service impacts every member of the College community—students, faculty and staff.
"His work across the College day in and day out often goes unnoticed. But the work he does is crucial to the smooth operations of our office, to be sure, but to the College more generally. His contributions are especially noteworthy given multiple stretches of transition periods in his department in recent years. Also, from my perspective, his work is noteworthy because his contributions are not often recognized. I look forward to our brief banter each day and I really appreciate his sense of humor.
"Gary is an excellent worker. I can set my watch to his delivery times every day. He always has a smile on his face and a funny joke to share. You don’t really notice all that Gary does until he is out. The campus does not run as efficiently without him."
Reggie Jones, Director of Counseling
"Reggie is a strong leader to those of us who are her colleagues as well as the Health Center and the College community as a whole. She maintains a vision for the counseling and health services that is meant to support the health and well-being of the Bryn Mawr community while also managing the day-to-day individual issues that surface. She is a great role model...and she is a lovely person!
"Reggie does the job of at least five well-trained professionals and does so with finesse, powerful advocacy, distinction, strong acuity and diplomacy.
"Reggie is an awesome role model—she manages the Counseling Center with integrity and cares deeply about the health and well being of the students we serve. She embodies all that Â鶹AV stands for: intellectual rigor, values-based leadership and a strongly believed in and lived commitment to social justice."
