New Faculty: Classical & Near Eastern Archaeology Assistant Prof Jennie Bradbury
As we begin the semester, we're highlighting Bryn Mawr's newest faculty members. The College supports faculty excellence in both research and teaching.
Assistant Professor of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology Jennie Bradbury
My research interests fall into five broad categories: social complexity in the ancient Near East; the role of ‘non-optimal’ zones; burial traditions and mortuary practices; landscape archaeology, GIS and archaeological survey techniques; and cultural heritage. Over the past five years, I have worked on projects which have explored a variety of different topics, from Bronze Age settlement patterns to Islamic burial traditions. I have been involved in excavation and survey projects in Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Syria, and the UK. I am currently director of the Kūbbā Coastal Survey Project, Lebanon, funded by the Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) and the Honor Frost Foundation (HFF). In 2017 I published a co-edited volume entitled, “Engaging with the Dead: Exploring Changing Human Beliefs about Death, Mortality and the Human Body”.
Bryn Mawr's Department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology trains undergraduates and graduate students in the archaeology of the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern worlds. The program is interdisciplinary and encourages students to take advantage of related offerings in Departments of Anthropology, Classics, Geology, History, History of Art, and the Program in the Growth and Structure of Cities.
