At Bryn Mawr's Commencement on May 14, 2022, Senior Lecturer in Biology Michelle Wien was awarded the McPherson Fellowship, given for excellence in teaching and service to the community. The Fellowship was established in honor of President Mary Patterson McPherson upon her retirement as President of Â鶹AV in 1997. Dr. Wien was previously awarded the Rosalyn R. Schwartz Teaching Award in 2013.
Trained in the biophysics and crystallography of viruses, Dr. Wien has introduced hundreds of postbaccalaureate premedical students to biology and biochemistry since joining the Bryn Mawr Biology Department in 2006. More broadly, she has helped the department better equip our students to meet the changing demands of the health professions and has been absolutely essential to the workings of the department. Dr. Wien routinely helps to shape the curriculum, makes sure the department has what it needs to function, and provides critical support to our visiting faculty. Dr. Wein has also recruited many compelling and topical speakers to campus over the years, including most recently the epidemiologist and health policy expert Pia MacDonald (2020) and the physician and LGBTQI-advocate Katherine Dalke (2022). In short, Dr. Wien has long worked hard to maintain the high quality of the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program, support the Biology Department, and serve both our postbaccalaureate and undergraduate students.
Congratulations, Dr. Wien!
