Maggie Xiao '15 Wins Best Student Presentation Award at Magnetism Conference
Maggie Xiao '15, a Ph.D. candidate at the Sensor and Technology Lab in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UCLA, recently won the Best Student Presentation Award at the 2019 Joint-MMM Intermag Conference in Washington, DC.
While at Bryn Mawr, Maggie conducted research led by Associate Professor of Physics Xuemei May Cheng in the Nanomaterials and Spintronics Lab, where she was first exposed to synchrotron x-ray experiments for studying magnetism at the nanoscale.
"While I was an undergrad in Physics, apart from the abundant mentorship received from the faculties in the physics department, both the school and department provided me with various research and conference fundings and support," says Maggie. "Those gave me the authentic experience of conducting academic research not only at Bryn Mawr, but also research universities such as Rutgers, and the Argonne National Laboratory. The experience from Bryn Mawr built the foundation for my ongoing research and has constantly encouraged me to move out of my comfort zone to explore more in research."
