The latest edition of the journal Common Place celebrates the 200th birthday of poet Walt Whitman. Among the contributors is Associate Professor of English Bethany Schneider, whose piece is titled .
"I saw Whitman’s cane in his Camden house, became obsessed with it, then was asked, out of the blue, to write about Whitman and disability. I had to wander far afield from where I usually sit in order to do it, and it was a very fun journey for me," Schneider says of the article. "My brilliant student Clare Mullaney, who graduated from Bryn Mawr in 2011 and will be joining us again in the fall to teach for a year, asked me to write this essay along with her co-editor Don James McLaughlin. The joy of writing for a former student, following her path, and writing for her eye, was profound. Thank you, Clare. And happy birthday, Walt Whitman."
In the piece, Schneider cites the 2015 article "" by Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Sara Grossman.
