Assistant Professor of Political Science Seung-Youn Oh Discusses U.S.-China Trade War on BBC
Assistant Professor of Political Science Seung-Youn Oh recently appeared on the BBC World News program to discuss the U.S. trade war with China.
Oh was on with William Reinsch, a former U.S. Commerce Department official now with the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
The pair discussed some of the possible ramifications of U.S. tariffs on China. Oh pointed to Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia as countries that are benefiting from the trade war because companies operating in China have shifted manufacturing operations to escape tariffs.
Oh specializes in international relations and comparative politics in East Asia. Her broader academic interests include China’s industrial restructuring and upgrading, state-owned enterprise reform and corporate governance, the effects of national origin of foreign direct investment on local economic development, as well as the evolving role of Chinese governments at the national and sub-national levels in shaping the country’s developmental path.
