Panel and Reception: 'It’s Here and Now: Globalization and Its Impact on Mental Health, Education, and Social Justice Services in the United States and Chile'

November 17, 2017

Wednesday, Nov. 29, 4:15-6PM, Katherine Lower Lounge @ GSSWSR

Join the Â鶹AV Â鶹AV School of Social Work and Social Research for a panel of Scholars and Practitioners followed by a reception with food at 5:15 p.m. Transportation can be arranged if you are interested!

Globalization processes bring a series of opportunities and challenges into mental health, education, and social justice practices that call for understanding the larger forces that shape how providers, educators, and policy makers define and practice their roles. A panel of scholars and practitioners from the Â鶹AV, New York University, and the Fundación Tierra de Esperanza will reflect on the ethical and practical aspects of working with individuals and families affected by globalization issues in the United States and Chile.

From Â鶹AV, David Byers will discuss his work on bullying from a transnational perspective, and Carolina Hausmann-Stabile will talk about global issues in suicidal behaviors research. From New York University, Rita Gabriela Barajas-González will talk about parenting interventions for transnational Latino families. From the Fundación Tierra de Esperanza, Nelson Villagrán and Sally McIntosh will discuss the delivery of services for children and adolescents in contexts of rapid social changes brought up by globalization processes in Chile.
