Mady Cantor, Director of Dance, Invited Dancer in 'Connecting the Distance'

Director and Term Professor of Dance Mady Cantor performed in  a new work from Expansions Contemporary Dance Ensemble to be presented in the . Cantor worked as part of team of dancers to create dance videos for interactive walking tours in both Mt. Airy and North Philly. 

A multimedia project directed by Christina Castro-TauserConnecting the Distance will present QR codes at mapped locations that link to content and performances from featured artists to be viewed on phones or other mobile devices. Ticket holders will "explore the passage of time and connection to locations, history and present" and experience "both a physical and emotional journey." Cantor notes, "Doorways are both a metaphor and a physical fact of the project. It's an innovative experiment in combining site-specific audience experience with filmed dance." 

The project's QR Codes will be placed from Thursday, Sept. 10 to Sunday, Oct. 4, the duration of the Fringe Festival.


Mady Cantor received a B.A. from Barnard College and has an M.F.A. in dance from the University of Michigan. She has been awarded grants for her choreography and is active as a guest choreographer with college and youth companies, community groups and professional companies. At Bryn Mawr she teaches technique, composition, repertory, and praxis courses in arts teaching and dance appreciation and has received the College’s Rosalyn R. Schwartz teaching award. Outside of Bryn Mawr, she directs  (Teaching Artists Group), serves on the national board of , and guest teaches at a charter school in Chester, Pa. Learn more about Cantor and the rest of the program's faculty on the Dance Program page
